System Overview: After taking the reins of your chosen character through registration, the time has come to act. Dynasty's RolePlay system is split into three distinct sections namely storyline, events and sandbox. You'll notice that it is impossible to create a thread in boards contained within the storyline and events section. This is because RolePlays in these areas are those which essentially affect the site's history significantly and directly and so require some form of organization before commencing. Otherwise, such RolePlays could become quite convoluted and tainted by conflicting player agendas. Participation and creation of RolePlays in these sections require you to go through the Story Development section; namely the Story Crafting and Submission processes; so that all RolePlays fit comfortably into the site's setting and history. Of course, there are also the Sandbox RolePlay boards in which you may freely create and participate in threads as you wish though with the condition that there are no player character vs player character hostilities unless the outcomes have been agreed upon by both parties. RolePlaying Basics: In RolePlay; your writing must involve your character staying true to their personality. One cannot control the actions of another player character or side characters without their consent. The reception and magnitude of damage or death inflicted to another player's character by your character is to be determined by them in their post. For example, as opposed to a hypothetical Lu Bu player posting "Lu Bu kills Dong Zhuo", a RolePlay savvy post will have the said player instead post "Lu Bu swings his halberd at Dong Zhuo's head" and if the death of Dong Zhuo has been discussed by players prior to the RolePlay's occurrence, the other player should post "Dong Zhuo receives the swing and dies." Same outcome; but the latter is RolePlay savvy while the former is not and such an action is referred to disdainfully as 'godmodding.' Adhering to RolePlay savvy along with the process of story pre-planning will ensure that your RolePlay experience is as enjoyable as possible. Storyline RolePlays: Storyline RolePlays are the epics of the site. By nature, the general outline of Storyline RolePlays must be discussed and the details surrounding them along with the events that are intended to take place agreed upon by all main participants. Typically, these RolePlays will revolve around a pair or even a band of player characters specifically. Upon approval of such RolePlays after their Submission, a board is constructed specifically for the commencement of the said Storyline RolePlay. Don't let the exclusivity drive you away, however, as such RolePlays will often include side characters for each respective thread; and with an in built Proboards Code mechanism, any and all members can join in the RolePlay as these side characters whenever they like by simply clicking to reply to the said thread, typing the side character's name in the appropriate field and selecting the corresponding avatar from the provided drop down menu. Often these Storyline RolePlays will encompass several happenings that would typically count as major events e.g. battles and high profile meetings, allowing for the creation of truly memorable narratives. Most of the conflicts of interest and details including the outcome should be sorted through the planning phase; allowing RolePlay participants to focus entirely on the crafting of such rich stories. Storyline RolePlays, within their board are cut into separate threads for separate seasons where need be to avoid convolution especially where sorting into the Pages of History section is concerned. All in all, Storyline RolePlays are truly the premier experience on site and promotes site-wide participation. Event RolePlays: Like Storyline RolePlays, Event RolePlays require pre-planning and submission before commencement. The scope of these RolePlays include large-scale battles to low profile meetings, but in any case require story crafting to proceed smoothly. Outcomes, especially for battle RolePlays, must be determined and agreed upon by all participants prior to submission so that all focus can be on telling the tale of the battle as opposed to bickering over troop counts and mathematical damage. This will also enable staff to act to move things along in the intended direction. Sandbox RolePlays: These RolePlays can be formed anywhere in the land of Ancient China. There need not be any notice and threads here can be open to the public. Though it must be understood that there cannot be any player character vs player character hostilities in these RolePlays unless there has been agreement between both players regarding the outcome. Non-Playable Characters: The utilization of non-playable characters in RolePlay has established itself as something of a social norm. From the local bartender to another famous non-player-controlled hero of Ancient China; the introduction of NPCs have to be believable with respect to setting. Control of an NPC is limited exclusively to the player that introduced the said NPC. Whether he or she inducts them into his own little Entourage or makes them die a horrible death is completely up to him or her. IX. ROLEPLAY |
